Maximum-Impact Marketing Market and Promote Your
PL / LDA Career or Business to Industries You Desire
by Jonathan Arnold, Esq. - Director Previously we have featured
introduction articles discussing many ways and benefits of
becoming your own LDA (Legal Document Assistant) i.e.,
staring your own Document Processing Business or (DPB). In
the traditional sense the LDA courses/certifications you are
working toward are typically applied when seeking a career
position with a Law Firm, as the title implies. The
foundation principles being discussed in this article can
easily be applied towards that purpose as well. As for
having your own business in this field, starting you own DPB
you would of course be providing that service for clients on
your own, as your own business, DBA (Doing Business As) or
as an LLC, etc.
Now, with this bit of clarification
in mind, let's examine the many different avenues open to
you, and you can apply these elements in either seeking a
paralegal career at a firm or in your own independent
Paralegal/LDA business as we'll be focusing on here. Of
course, listing all of the industry options are too vast to
highlight here so let's look at the one high potential for
success method surrounding choosing from a list, 'Your Own
List', of businesses, industries and subject and matter
categories you are both very familiar with, somewhat
familiar with and/or are of great interest to you to apply
your career in and market your services to.

Now,
taking into consideration your geographical location,
California, which has one of the widest range of diverse
business industry categories in one area in the country. So
as a few example illustrations let's highlight what we have
featured previously. For those of you who may have other
industry interests, just keep in mind to simply apply the
foundation of what we'll be discussing towards those that
interest you. The business may be different, but the
principles and tips we'll illustrate to you will have the
same values for all. In other words Sir Learn-ed Career
Minded Students, apply to your specific special interest
accordingly...be 'Creative!' The 'Word's Out' and
It's Good For You! A Basic Refresher for your own
independent PL/LDA business
As a Paralegal with your
LDA certification, you'll be starting your own Document
Processing Business with a bit of a current edge. The rate
of people choosing to hire paralegals for lessor complicated
situations as opposed to attorney direct
hiring/representation for preparing/processing documents and
like services, is at an all-time high. In other words, you,
your new business, would be operating basically as an
'Independent Paralegal' classification. This is for the
simple reason you're not being employed by or supervised by
an attorney or law firm but providing a service based on
what you are legally qualified and registered to do and
where you're licensed or registered to do 'it'. This gives
the general public the opportunity an affordable choice over
hiring an expensive law firm that would most likely just
shift that workload over to an in-house paralegal at a
higher rate and for the exact same purposes, and it boosts
their comfort zone as a 'Do-It-Yourself-er'.
Some states allow
for independent paralegals to become both licensed and
registered, and California is one of them. Independent
paralegals providing services as 'Legal Document Assistants'
would now become fully registered and bonded, we've
discussed that minor detail before, these requirements are
very affordable so don't fret on that one, refer to some of
our previous articles on that.
As an independent
Paralegal with your own DPB (Document Processing Business),
you bring the advantage to the do-it-yourself-ers' of not
just being a clerical paper handler, but someone whom is
familiar with what legal forms are necessary, how local
forms are filed, where they should be filed, filing fees,
local rules that need to be understood and relayed to the
client and a knowledge of those processes on a local level.
Because - as a Paralegal/LDA or (DPB) you would be
'Registered' as an LDA in your specific county, ergo, a
licensed, registered, bonded LDA to perform DPB services.
Now all of this as we've mentioned throughout in our
articles, follows the basic guidelines or regulatory
practices afforded to Paralegals and LDAs. While paralegals
do have limitations on the type of services they provide to
the public, you can perform such services as preparing the
documents your client needs to file, proofreading and more,
all of course, on a non-legal advice providing basis.
As an independent paralegal and LDA, your credentials
through your High-Velocity WASC accredited certifications
you acquire during your courses at LAVC provide you with
substantive work capabilities. These credentials bring with
it the recognition, evaluation, organization, analysis, and
communication of relevant facts and legal-concepts, and - if
you've been paying attention, that important edge factor we
constantly feature in our articles, 'creativity'. And once
again, you can provide these service advantages to your
clients at lower than traditional law firm rates, a powerful
marketing tool for you that bears repeating.
So as
you can see, at the risk of sounding like a used car
salesman, get that LDA certification, the courses are short,
affordable and extremely valuable, and that goes either way,
if you decide on a career with a firm or your own business,
just take that extra step and you'll advance forwards by
leaps and bounds. Don't be that 'numbskull' who jumps into
the pool before checking to see how much water is in it, not
too smart, fill that pool up then jump in.
Your All
Important Services List - with Specialties for Expanded
Potential
Start early making a list of services you
intend to provide or specialize in when starting your LDA
business. While having your own document processing business
can cover a great deal of area, the more traditional ones
like family law matters, finances, trusts, etc. are always
available and should not be discarded. As a certified
paralegal these topics may possibly be more familiar to you
as they are the more standard ones most likely discussed or
covered somewhat during your courses. But the obvious aside,
let's look at 3 unique industry potentials we have featured
before that may be of great interest and familiarity to you.
Now to the point. We will not be highlighting each
in any specific order as we've done previously, but throwing
them in at random to illustrate some specifics, don't worry,
you'll get the idea. Let's take a look.
Your DPB in
Entertainment, Aerospace and Maritime Industries Deciding
and Expanding on your services in Rewarding and Niche Fields
It is highly suggested you refer to each of these 3
major industry introduction articles we've featured here on
the THORNHILL LFC site, you'll find a great deal of tips
you're just not going to find in any one place.
The
industry examples of Aerospace, Entertainment and Maritime
we have featured before provide some interesting elements to
them for your LDA (DPB) business, as well as applying your
paralegal career to if that's your decision. Why these as an
illustration? One reason is that they all have one unique
element to them, they all fall into a unique and niche
creative field. And creativity is one of the main factors
that give you a major defense against Robotic AI automation
invasion being hyped all over scaring people. As mentioned
in the beginning of this article, just apply the key
elements of what is discussed here to whatever industry pond
you want to cast your career fishing line into, as the
intent is to give you some enticing career marketing bait
you can use to your advantage.

Interesting Tasks - Interesting Challenges
Maximum Impact is one of our slogans of our articles and
tips that goes far beyond the basics. Do a simple search on
the internet, try the search engine DuckDuckGo.com for
example, it's uniquely different and provides some of the
latest and most unique indexing at times. Look for other
existing Paralegal LDA processing services and you'll soon
see what we're talking about here. Their listed services on
their website are almost identical and limited, you can
hardly tell one from the other, but 'that's good for you!'
Almost all of them are fishing in the same pond competing
for the same traditional business. real estate, trusts,
family matters, help with filing a DBA, LLC or other type
business entity for example. Sure, you would also want to
included those as well, but let's consider expanding far
beyond those standard PL/LDA services that have limited
themselves with marketing and add your special interest
industries, as that gives you that Maximum-Impact edge.
Many Departments - Many Challenges - Many
Opportunities
Take note that you're living
in the Entertainment Capitol of the World with the Movie
Studios, Broadcast TV Centers and Music Industry,
neighboring with major Aerospace and Maritime firms are all
right here at your doorstep in Southern California. What
other State can boast about that one? So why on earth would
you not want to explore those nearby potentials that are
just there for the picking, especially when they're
overlooked by your competitors? For example, one look at the
vast amount or multitude of different functions and
categories within the entertainment industry will show you
just how much potential there is for you to reach out and
provide services to. The Entertainment Industry with all of
their local permit filings, location production insurance, E
and O (Errors and Omissions) insurance needed by even the
smallest producer of broadcast content, are just some areas
where your filing and processing services could be of value,
especially to much smaller firms, or as the industry monikor
goes 'low budget production companies', that don't have
staff attorneys like the big players of Warner Bros.,
NBC/Uni, Disney and the like.
Now in the Music field
an ideal consideration is to market to indie artists, bands
and labels, as we discussed in our recent article on
Paralegals and LDAs in the Music Industry. Take advantage of
your familiarity of this business and list all of those
functions you could provide a useful money saving benefit
to. Follow BMI and ASCAP for the music industry. Just don't
ignore the smaller film and broadcast productions that also
provide potential as they're all over the place, and watch
our introduction Videos you see featured on some very
interesting potentials.
Like the Aerospace Factor?
Space X, Virgin Galactic,
Blue Origin and more are all close by. Sure, these are huge
firms, but there are also vendors, support firms and the
like that all play an important part. What are these to you?
Right, more potential to offer your services to. Don't think
these companies, their contractors or support firms don't
have much use for legal filings or the like, their
implementations of their projects are very strict and
require a ton of legal preparation, form filings and needs
before they even get a launch off the ground.

Have a
fond interest in our Oceans?
The list is credible to say the
least, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, in La Jolla,
with their famous Birch Aquarium, the San Pedro Harbor or
(Port of Los Angeles), the # 1 container port in the U.S.,
the very interesting Ocean Institute in Dana Point, the
Maritime Museum of San Diego. Then you have the necessary
elements involved in maritime, such as INCOTERMS and
Contract insurance and on top of that you can obtain a list
of every cargo vessel in the world at My Ship Tracking and
Vessel Finder. Now send out promotional introduction of your
services to all of those and that'll keep you busy for quite
some time. And additionally the maritime industry also
employs countless land-based support operations as well
especially when you include all of the numerous ocean
Environmental Organizations and Groups. Just one deal from
one of those could make your business and you'd probably
have a steady on-going client. Not only that, but it would
give you a 'related client' in that exact industry and that
carries more weight than you might realize. On top of that
you'd be dealing in an area you find fascinating, creative,
entertaining and enjoyable, not a bad combination for your
career.
Find that interesting? Then maybe we've just
starred you in a Film, produced your first Album, launched
