As of about a year ago we began referring to HR as SHR or (Strategic Human Resources) as we feel this term and it's meaning(s) are the key to advancement in this career. Human Resources in reality may be referred to as the policy and systems division of the executive management. So where does the Strategic (S) come in? Well, in one instance you can say that the HR department play as strategic partners that contribute to the development as well as accomplishments of the entire organization-wide business plan and objectives of any firm.

Strategic Specific

On a more specific note, and one we have exclusively introduced and feature as being highly advantageous, is that the term 'Strategic' pertains to what we have been featuring in our more recent articles as a form of Familiarization that you include as a creative addition to your bio/resume. To expand on; familiarization with the specific and precise career category you go into, such as Entertainment Industry, Maritime Industry, and specifically with reference here in this article, the Aerospace or Space industry.

Diplomacy with SHR is also a factor as while the SHR Manager might be serving the executive agendas in fine fashion, there are frequent potentials for a 'riff', so to speak, with other departmental managers on various issues. An example might be that the CEO and higher executive level may not be excited about their management staff interpreting or implementing their own agendas as it pertains to the employee handbook that may be in conflict with their own HR department. So as you can see, 'Strategic' has many factors and benefits to it. As HR or (SHR) evolves it must also be flexible to transform, and this may very well be a big asset for any HR assistant or manager seeking advancement. However, while application of the 'basic stuff' for any HR career, the term Transform also applies to transforming your own improvement and advancements using the Familiarization aspect for the specific firm you seek a career in.

More Than Basic HR Functions with Side Categories

The Aerospace (Space) industry is definitely one that will include more than your basic HR Functions as they apply to the average company. So let's take a look inside of the Aerospace (Space) industry and see how you can apply your NEW SHR career in this highly advanced, scientific and exciting field of opportunity.

Aerospace covers a lot of categories other than the actual launch companies themselves. This $500 Billion industry incorporates support firms far too many to mention that all play a significant role in this highly advancing field, and therein lies the tremendous career opportunity potentials.

You're not working for the Metropolitan bus line that transports people from their home to the mall, you'll be working with an Aerospace firm that launches humans from earth to space and involves competing for sophisticated and enormous contracts globally. With the above 3 mentioned you'd be dealing with specifics not generics. You'll be seeking to recruit from, engage in training and development phases and be providing Job Safety implementations from this very specialized advanced industry. The pool of potential staff need to be highly qualified in Aerospace and Space Aeronautics and you should take it upon yourself to familiarize yourself with the intricacies and unique demands of this scientific industry. To do so would give you a decided 'edge' over another competitor simply bringing in the standard HR resume credentials.

Familiarization of Important Elements

A main task in this highly competitive industry will also involve improving the pipeline of future leaders through a process referred to as succession planning. And to do this, you need to know or should have a fundamental scope of what you'll be succession planning for. For this you need to know something about the Aerospace industry. Just a few handy elements would include DOT (Department of Transportation) guidelines, Space launch facility operations, basic Space Aeronautic terminology. Now don't fret here, we're not suggesting you need to take advanced courses in astrophysics, but to take it upon yourself to familiarize yourself with the basics and one of the best ways to do this is to 'glossarize' your vocabulary. This simply means study some of the terms most commonly used in Aerospace. You'd be surprised at how favorably you'd be looked upon by those seeking to consider you for a career in their firm if you have this edge over other competitors in your field. It goes without saying that as an Human Resource assistant/manager or SHR, this familiarization will also help you with two major challenging factors in the hiring process you'll be overseeing, those being competency and skill gaps in critical positions and dealing with a lack of employee engagement or satisfaction. These two areas each contain mandatory value considerations. Competency and skill gaps need to be improved or identified at the recruitment stages prior to the hiring process to ensure the best qualified applicant is selected. Lack of satisfaction and engagement by the employee may lead to that employee leaving the firm to a competitor. A 'pro' if the employee is not a right 'fit' for the firm, a 'con' if the employee presented a key position in the firm adding to your 'turnover' ratio. So you see, a foundational familiarization of the Aeronautic Space terminology and operations will allow you to conduct such duties in a far more precision manner. Do not underestimate that extra effort to learn the industry basics.
