We recently presented an article about 'Your Career Defense Against Robotic and AI in the Work Force' that addresses Robotic AI (Artificial Intelligence) as either a threat or benefit to potential careers. It confronts a variety of statements of AI intervention in the work force, both pro and con, and there are many. For example, Elon Musk, Tesla founder, has stated that he believes super intelligent machines could use humans as pets. While sounding a bit over the top, some think that AI could eventually 'go rogue' and become too complex for scientists to understand. Really? But not so, when you consider that those building and programming these machines, and that's what they are and should ALWAYS be referred to as, can't figure out their own flaws with potential back-end damage control problems, and have a hard time addressing consumer distrust.

While perhaps sounding a bit concerning on the surface, there are certain job necessities, functions and capabilities that these Robotic Artificial Intelligence machines that are not yet perfected in anyway, would be hard pressed to replace and could actually provide or even expand career opportunities if you use sound strategy., and with THORNHILL LFC and LAVC that's what were here to enlighten you on. Years of Research and Development...Yet No Cigar!
After all the years of research AI - robots still can't function to a small fraction of what's been featured in even some of the old Sci-Fi movies or popular science. According to the Daily Mail, "They don't much resemble their fictional predecessors; they mostly don't walk, only sometimes roll and often lack limbs." And they're nowhere close to matching the language, social skills and physical dexterity of people." Yet they're being touted as this latest greatest achievement by their developers - but of course they would be.

Let's take a quick look at what we consider here at LFC to be some Basic considerations of AI, and remember, here a LFC/LAVC the value is in YOU!.

Machinery of Parts

Before you start shouting "we're being Invaded by Martians" and jump off your roof as in the famous old time 'War of the Worlds' radio skit, think of AI, any kind of AI, as simply a pile of metal, plastic, computer chips, wires and electricity, with Movement and Audio capabilities. Understand that while the developers and manufacturers of this 'Machinery' want you to think otherwise, KISS this one, (Keep It Simple Stupid). In other words, just understand and remember that humans tend to react and respond spontaneously and often emotionally to any kind of intervention, human, animal or other and that when you interact with any form of AI you're listening to a Machine, do the world and yourself a Great Big Fat Favor and try not to act like one.

A Brief Summary of AI
Human Creativity?

With that in mind you have now developed your first line of practicality and prospective by not ogling over a machine, it's a tool! Now you can bring in one of your best arsenals of defense 'Creativity'. Ok, so AI is built to 'learn as they're used', but in what way? They 'mimic' thinking based on database information. Realize that these machines can only be as creative as their programmer(s). That's not to say they don't have a useful purpose and can certainly be of value to man, just don't get brainwashed into flipping that scenario the other way and start looking at it like 'Man should be valuable to Them!'

Impostors of Emotion

Can you program Emotion? Well, what are you really producing? A 'Programmed Emotional Impostor!' They make 'attempts' at trying to understand Human Emotion, with the new trend being through audio, or vocal recognition, but nevertheless, a synthetic approach. Realize that while these Robotic and AI developers, geeks and manufacturers want you to think they created a human, best they can do is create a 'human LIKE pile of spiritless machinery.

Outdated and Recyclable

When it gets older and the brand new shiny model is out, what is it now? Right, a worthless recyclable pile of junk, while you as a Human can Age Gracefully increase your Creativity, your Skills and of course, your Value and Self Worth, and that boosts your Spirit...something machines don't have!.

Surveys also reveal that Clients/Consumers resisting using these resources are and will be high, as they lack that all important personal touch.

Data Privacy Risks

AI systems need and use large amounts of data to serve as designed and that will generate significant amounts of information, and this increases the risk management area for potential targets for cybercriminals as eluded to in the 2018 European Union’s new General Data Protection Regulation. Plus, where is the insurance that AI can or will comply with legal ethics rules as with the American Bar Association Model Rules of Professional Conduct? Also, how is the liability going to be determined when mistakes occur through the extensive use of AI?.

Understanding the AI intervention

While there are vast business categories where a Paralegal with LDA certifications could be highly valuable, if you are absolutely set on just focusing on getting hired at a law firm, then get a jump on AI and others and familiarize yourself with using Legal Technology. Remember, someone at the firm has to 'input' the desired and very specific informational research request, full of variations and strategies, into this AI machinery. Also, AI systems are created by humans, opening up potentials for biased and judgmental output. How would it be proved or disproved of this potential flaw? Using artificial intelligence tools i.e. Luminance, RAVN, Kira are samples of what would be another bonus to study up on as you go. Does AI actually and fully understand all the details of the tasks and 'strategy intention' in which they are prompted to complete? Highly unlikely.

By summarizing much of this in your Bio Familiarization Addendum, you provide potential employers a glimpse of your added value in fully understanding a complex problem facing many businesses today, another bonus for you.

So when it comes right down to it, what is AI? A Spiritless Machine that Mimics a Human with pre-programmed Creativity having no Real Emotion attempting to emulate a Human, at a rapid pace.

- SO WHAT CAN YOU DO?
Well, let's take all of this and get to the foundation of this article, not being afraid of this technology but actively and creatively seeking creative avenues for advancing your Paralegal career in the Artificial Intelligence industry. In other words, turning this perceived threat into a valuable career opportunity.

Your Own Business as a Paralegal LDA

This is a topic that has some very interesting avenues to it as we've discussed before. As a Paralegal with your low cost High-Velocity LDA (Legal Document Assistant) certification, you now have the ability to pursue and succeed in your own business.
There are a variety of services you can provide and promote as your own Paralegal / LDA business. One interesting one is to promote your local services to out of the region or out-of-state businesses or consumers who require document processes and/or filings in California. This is an interesting one not many think of targeting as it would provide a far less expensive option to those residing out of the area to have their documents filed. The list of services you can provide are numerous and knowing the area and more especially, the local court systems and developing contacts would provide a large asset for your business potential.

As for the large hiring type firms, a quick scan of just one of the larger Job Hiring firms showed position examples for

- Legal Administrator for top-notch Artificial Intelligence technologies for education. Proofread and revise legal documents, etc.

- Business Planner - Artificial Intelligence firm

- Legal Associate - Artificial Intelligence firm

Researching cutting-edge legal issues, such as the legal framework for “fake news” and disinformation, the impact of counter-terrorism measures on civic freedom.

Seek Out Non-Legal Related Firms
We have covered here on the LegalFieldCareers.com site topics such as Paralegal Careers in The Entertainment Industry, Maritime and most recently, Aerospace. In the Future we will be introducing various interesting other options for you to consider. With some creative strategy you can probably come up with several that peak your interest as being good potentials for a PL/LDA career.

There are also firms opening up all the time that provide AI products/services, such as as Amazon, Anki, Banjo, CloudMinds, OpenAI, Salesforce, and many others. There are also numerous firms popping up that deal specifically in Legal AI, such Legal Robot, Luminance, Ross and many others. ROSS, is another that claims it is an advanced legal research tool that harnesses the power of artificial intelligence to improve the research process. Sort of like an On-Demand Research Associate.

There are also options, such as working with hiring firms like Upwork, FlexJobs, SkipTheDrive and others that provide a platform opportunity for paralegals to work with small firms, solo lawyers, virtual attorneys, or all of the above, and not just with law firms! Going into business for yourself has advantages, such as being able to dictate your working structure, ie; Full or Part Time, and in what business type you find interesting and with opportunity potentials.

So you see, don't start fearing the Robotic AI Invasion just yet, as a LAVC Paralegal Career Student you have many options available to you. The AI intrusion into the workplace environment can pose as many or more opportunities for career potentials, than they threaten, if you just 'Think Like a Human!'
