Acquiring Your LDA and with a 'Bolder' Larger Bond
Another Bold or 'Smart' move you can make is to secure
your LDA Certificate so you can register as a Licensed
LDP (Legal Document Processor/Preparer). For the nominal
amount it will cost you in such a short time to obtain
your certificate, you should consider this a must for
your career and to give you that 'Maximum-Advantage' we
mention throughout the LFC site. Currently in California
a $25,000 bond, subject to change, is required to get
your LDP license and provide these services in the
county you want to work in. But, you may also want to
consider being a little Bolder. For example, you may be
surprised that the cost difference between just getting
the bare minimum Bond of $25,000 to the possibility of
getting yourself a bond for a much larger amount is not
that much more significant and can give you a very
credible advantage that offers extra confidence in your
ability to perform the various services you provide. For
example shop around and check out the cost difference
between a $25,000 Bond and a $1,000,000 Bond, or
something in between, you may be surprised at the
nominal cost difference, but the extra cost for the
larger bond my very well be worth it. The cost of the
bond is based on the number of LDAs employed and
financial strength of the corporation or partnership,
so, the larger your Bond, the more credible, serious and
valuable you appear to a large firm if seeking a career
position with that firm. Now this would also hold true
when seeking a career or marketing your LDP service
business to some of the 'Bolder' industries such as
Aerospace, AI, Maritime, etc.

Additional Considerations
While others are providing - offering, minimum
traditional services, minimum familiarity, minimum
bonding, minimum interest, you'll be bringing Bolder

Look at it this way, say you're
competing for the same position or client and your
competitor comes in with the standard Paralegal and no
LDA as a traditional approach, and you show up with your
Paralegal, LDA with a LDP License and $1,000,000 or even
$100,000 Bond along with your Familiarity of the
Business Industry you're approaching. Who do you think
is going to be given the best advantage? It's not even
close.
The Law Firms traditionally approached by
Paralegals just expect you to be well versed in your
trade, but when you start looking at the more Advanced
and 'Bolder' industries, you need that 'Maximum
Advantage', and what's more interesting, it's not that
more expensive or time consuming to achieve it.
Another consideration is that the more Advanced unique
type industries, such as those mentioned, Aerospace, AI,
Robotics, Maritime, look for the more Bolder approach to
match their Mission Statements. Therefore, it would be
wise for you to do the same.
The Company's Mission Statement - Read Before You
Apply/Approach
All of these major and 'Bolder' companies have their own
mission statement and their statements can be quite
competitive and advanced 'leaning'. So as you prepare
for your PL/LDA career and make your list of potential
industry firms to approach be sure to read each one as
it will give you a great deal of insight into the
company functions and direction.
Another
Consideration - Be Bolder - The 'Grabber' Media Kit
Take a page out of the Entertainment Industry's
marketing practices. Make Resume presentation a short
Media Kit and add a Cover to your Resume and include a
Head Shot of yourself about 1/3 or even 1/2 the page,
that's right, not a small thumbnail, and add a few short
one-line teasers. Now you'll have a condensed 2 page
Resume with a 'Grabber' an attention grabbing cover that
stands out when sitting on the desk with all the others,
the one they'll 'Grab' first. Plus the reviewer(s) will
be glad so see that it's well defined and condensed a 2
minute read total, but power-packed. Look at this as
your 'Media Kit'. An interesting variation from the
standard multi-page all type resumes others provide. You
should also make this available in multiple formats such
as .PDF format as well and on a CD/DVD or Flash drive.
One strategy preparation note, go ahead and make a
more detailed lengthier Resume and perhaps include a few
elements to elaborate on that you didn't add in your
initial page, maybe 2 or even 3 pages, and you can add
it in the back of your 'Media Kit' as a well detailed
version of your first page Resume. This way they can
read it in front of you if they want or can refer to it
later, and that shows you're one step ahead of all of
them. So what you'll have or what you 'should' have is a
Grabber Cover with your Larger Photo, a 1 page Resume
along with a 3/4 page Familiarity Bio and a 2-3 page
well detailed version of your first page Resume.
Concise, power-packed, creative and relevant in every
detail, slanted appropriately towards the specific
industry you're approaching.

Q:
As a Paralegal working for a law
firm you know that one of your main responsibilities is
to draft client calendars and ensure accurate dates. But
do you know what your/your firm's liabilities and client
recourse is should you mis-calendarize causing the
firm's client to incur an adverse outcome or financial
loss?
A: Any attorney that
uses the services of a paralegal is ultimately liable to
the client for any harm that results from the
paralegal's negligence or misconduct. Put another way,
the duties that an attorney owes to the client are
non-delegable, meaning that it is the attorney who bears
the brunt for mistakes made within the attorney's
office. That being said, no attorney is going to be
happy (to put it mildly) with errors -- especially
calendaring errors -- made by his or her paralegal(s).
The key here is to know not only how to compute dates
(ranging from applicable Statute of Limitations dates to
any relevant transaction dates) but then TO BEAT THOSE
DATES so that things like court filings, discovery
responses, revised contracts and the like are not only
calendared for completion before they are due, but also
sent/filed A FEW DAYS EARLY. How to do this is just one
