County (NLSLA) and become part of an energetic
team of advocates that
provides a wide-range of legal services aimed to address issues that
disproportionately
impact the poor. These services include
litigation, providing training and technical assistance, and
community education.
NLSLA is seeking a Health Consumer Center
(HCC) Hotline Coordinator for its Pacoima office. The
individual is
expected to oversee the logistics of NLSLA’s hotline to ensure that we
provide high quality
and timely advice to our client community. The
Hotline Coordinator will maintain strong knowledge of a
range of
health care access issues affecting low-income individuals including
eligibility, access to care, and
affordability with emphasis on
managed care delivery systems issues. The hotline coordinator will
provide
on-going support, research, and training to health care
advocates who staff the HCC hotline.

This is a bargaining
unit position.
Availability: Open Immediately.
Compensation: Salary Starting at $37,828.00 - Salary
commensurate with experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:Serve as hotline
coordinator for HCC’s consumer hotline. Engage in oversight of
the
logistics of NLSLA’s hotline, including ensuring appropriate hotline
scheduling, intake and coordination of case assignment, monitor quality
control
issues and case status, mentoring and training of intake
screeners and hotline
advocates. The hotline coordinator will
maintain a caseload of health advocacy
cases and will assist with
compiling hotline call data and some grant reporting
related to
hotline activities. The position will also include participation in HCC
outreach and community events. The position will be based out of NLSLA’s
Pacoima office, but will require regular travel to other NLSLA offices
and client
sites. The hotline coordinator will report directly to the
HCC Supervising Attorney
Minimum Qualifications:
Highly motivated individual passionate about public service work, with
sensitivity
to those in crisis. A non-supervisory leader with
excellent communication and
interpersonal skills, and experience
working with paralegals. Qualified candidates
will have at least a
B.A. degree and 3 plus years’ experience. Excellent writing,
speaking
and organizational skills and the proven ability to communicate
effectively with clients, community organizations, attorneys, the
judiciary and the
public as well as demonstrated capacity to mentor
paralegals and screeners.
Experience advocating for individuals or
other advocacy work involving health and
benefits issues preferred;
Health expertise preferred. Bilingual skills in Spanish preferred.
